Deep Tissue Feature 1

Deep Tissue Massage is a form of massage which utilises specific techniques and stretches to scientifically manipulate soft tissues of the body, for the purpose of normalising those tissues. It consists of manual techniques that include applying fixed or movable pressure and involves the use of firm techniques to relax, lengthen and release restrictions in muscle and connective tissue layers. Massage strokes used may involve the use of the forearms, knuckles and elbows to work at a deeper tissue level. Techniques used may include compressions, deep frictions, muscle energy techniques, soft tissue releases and neuromuscular techniques.

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions and trigger points in muscles, tendons and ligaments. This can contribute towards decreased circulation and cause pain, limited movement and inflammation.

Deep Tissue Massage is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. It can be used for 'general maintenance' or can focus on a specific problem, such as:

  • Chronic pain
  • Tension Headache
  • Tennis & Golfers Elbow
  • Shoulder Issues
  • IT Band Syndrome
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Upper and Lower back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Rounded shoulders
  • Tension, pain and general problems in the lower limbs
  • Limited mobility
  • Recovery from injuries
  • Repetitive strain injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Postural problems
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle tension or spasm

For many people, it feels fantastic to have a general deep tissue massage on a regular basis to keep any ongoing or chronic issues at bay and provide deep muscular relief.  Some discomfort and pain can be expected when treating chronic muscle tension or adhesions but you should never be out of your comfort zone. A postural assessment of your upper or lower body (or both) may be included where applicable.

The cost depends on the treatment time you choose:

30 mins - £24

45 mins - £32

60 mins - £40

75 mins - £48

90 mins - £56

Every 3rd treatment is half price*

*when the treatment time length is the same as or less than previous treatments

I would recommend 60 minutes in most cases and for a general maintenance deep tissue massage, however you can opt for a shorter time if you have a specific small issue. A single elbow or one-sided neck condition can be treated in 30 minutes for example. A shoulder issue can be treated in 45 minutes. If you have several conditions then choose a longer treatment time. If unsure choose 60 minutes or just ask me for advice. When booking online, please put in the other information box the length of treatment you would like. If left blank, I will assume 60 minutes.

What to wear?

Shorts without back pockets are ideal for treating legs and gluteal muscles will be massaged through shorts if they require treatment. For back treatments it is easier for men to remove their top. For ladies I advise wearing a bra and vest top. The lower back can be treated by lifting the vest top up and the upper back treated by slipping straps down. Towels are used to keep you warm and comfortable. Areas which are not being worked on are kept covered.
